The ELEDIA Research Center has approximately 300 square meters of dedicated laboratory space with the state of the art in scientific supplies and equipment. In particular ELEDIA benefits from the use of:
- Wireless Technologies and Devices Laboratory - the lab is dedicated to the implementation of software/firmware for hardware control as well as the development of novel communications hardware that helps in the validation of theoretical ideas and in demonstrating their practicality; many Wireless Sensor Network testbeds are available for indoor and outdoor testing of both methodologies and devices.
- Wireless implementations and hardware facilities laboratory - the lab offers a variety of resources including a wide range of state-of-the-art test and measurement hardware (multimeters, oscilloscopes, amplifiers and power generators) as well as a stock of standard active and passive electronic components that extends into the radio frequency (RF) range.
- Software implementation for wireless systems and applications laboratory - the lab is focused on the theoretical development, system modeling and simulation; MoM, FDTD, FEM electromagnetic simulators are available for serial and parallel computing. Students may have authorization to use the computers for assignments or projects. The computational facilities include a super-pc for parallel computing and a cluster of 20 last generation dual-core and quad-core computers.
- Controlled measurements in anechoic chambers - the anechoic chamber in Trento is equipped with all devices required for calibration and measurements (Vector network analyzer, oscilloscopes, RF signal generators, RF amplifiers, electromagnetic field probes). A second external anechoic chamber in Genova is also equipped with specific instrumentation for electromagnetic compatibility measurements and antenna measurements. The chamber has the following characteristics: lenght 8.5m, width 6.1m, height 5.8m; shielding > 120 dB, NSA: best of 4 dB, field uniformity: -0/+6 dB over 75% of points.
- Prototype manufacturing laboratory - multipurpose signal generation, data acquisition, control and recording instrumentation provides a supporting role in the rapid prototyping of RF systems. The prototype manufacturing lab has equipment for antenna and PCB lithographic printing and device testing.
- Smart systems for home automation laboratory - the lab facilities include embedded device modules for the experimental validation of innovative control strategies for home automation systems. Low power Zigbee devices typically adopted for Wireless Sensor Networks deployment are available for system testing, development and integration. The resources emphasizie functionality in collaborative design, home environments, civil and industrial spaces.
Besides the dedicated laboratories, the ELEDIA Research Center benefits from all the services offered by the facilities office of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento such as administrative issues, purchases, overseeing laboratories and research facilities, reservations, travel booking.
