EYESHADE MISSION

Detection about urban and sub-urban emergency events such as fires, storms, traffic jams is of great importance to protect the security of humans.

REAL-TIME DETECTION OF EMERGENCIES

While there are limited physical sensors distributed on the territory, urban emergency events are still difficult to be detected for their real-time feature.
Recently, social media feeds are rapidly emerging as a novel platform for providing and dissemination of information that is often geographic.

Here comes EYESHADE. The platform has been designed for the detection of so called "Medium or Small emergency events" in a relatively small scenario such as a country or a wide region.

FEATURES

SOCIAL MEDIA AS CRISIS SENSORS

Social media is increasingly used to communicate during major crises. But what about small-scale incidents such as a car crash or fire? Detecting these small-scale events thus poses an important challenge for the field of Crisis Computing.

REAL-TIME

The real-time response of social media, especially Twitter, is one of most important motivation of EYESHADE approach.

LOW-COST

The access to social media is free of charge. EYESHADE requires only an hardware platform (computers) and a good Internet connection to run.

CROWD-SOURCED

Leading features or crowdsourced data are exploited for event detection and confirmation.

SCALABLE

Since 2012, researchers study how to detect worldwide crises through social media. But also small-scale events might be detected.
