received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Bahir Dar University, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, in 2007. He worked as an assistant lecturer in Bahir Dar University, 2007 - 2009. He received the MSc degree in Telecommunications Engineering from University of Trento, Trento, Italy, in 2011. He is currently a Ph. D. student at the ICT International Doctoral School of Trento, and conducting research in the ELEDIA Research Center. His main research interests are antenna arrays and electromagnetic inverse scattering.




received the Ph.D. degree from the International Doctoral School in Information and Communication Technology of the University of Trento, Italy, in February 2005. He worked as scientist at GraphiTech, Italy, from 2005 to 2007. He has been a JSPS Post-Doc at the Media Integrated Communication Lab (MICL), Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University from 2007 to 2010. From 2010 to 2013, he has been a member of the MultiMedia Signal Processing and Understanding LAB (mmLAB), University of Trento, Italy. From 2013 to 2015, he has been a senior researcher at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan. He is currently a Principal Lecturer of the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Brunei Darussalam, and the Director of the ELEDIA@UTB. His main interests include data mining and big data intelligence analytics for distributed monitoring and event detection, Internet of Things, and decision support systems in the fields of smart farming, healthcare, and smart cities and communities.




received the M.S. degrees in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2008, and the PhD degree from the International Doctoral School in Information and Communication Technology in 2012. He is a member of the ELEDIA Research Center. His research activities are focused on the solution of antenna array synthesis and electromagnetic inverse scattering problems.




received the Bachelor Degree and the Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, and the PhD degree from the International Doctoral School in Information and Communication Technology of Trento in 2015. Currently, he is a member of the ELEDIA Research Center. His research work is focused on wireless sensor network, electromagnetic propagation, and antenna design.




received the M.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2011, and the PhD degree from the International Doctoral School in Information and Communication Technology of Trento in 2014. From December 2014 he is a Post Doc Researcher in the SIRENA project (2014-2017) funded by DIGITEO (France).
He is a permanent member of the ELEDIA Research Center and from 2014 the technical director of the ELEDIA@L2S. He is also a member of the COST Action TU1208 "Civil Engineering Applications of Ground Penetrating Radar". His research activities are mainly concerned with inverse scattering, antenna synthesis, and computational electromagnetics with focus on system-by-design methodologies aimed at "integrating" optimization techniques and Learning-by-Examples (LBE) methods for real-world applications.




received the M.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento in 2007, and the PhD degree in Information and Communication Technology in 2010. Dr. Viani is a Research Associate (Post-Doc) at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (University of Trento), permanent member of the ELEDIA Research Center and Director of ELEDIA@UniNAGA. Since 2010, Dr. Viani is the official teacher of the course “Design Techniques for Wireless Communications” offered by the University of Trento. Dr. Viani is author/co-author of over 100 peer reviewed papers on international journals and conferences, where he has also co‐organized and co‐chaired convened sessions. The research activities of Dr. Viani are oriented to the design and development of wireless systems, devices, and methodologies in the framework of Electromagnetic Fields for the solution of complex electromagnetic problems, such as the wireless localization and tracking of active/passive targets. He is also involved in the design of distributed monitoring systems by means of wireless technologies, like wireless sensors networks, for smart cities and smart buildings applications, and in the development of decision support strategies for fleet management and emergency-related applications. Dr. Viani serves as a reviewer for international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, Progress in Electromagnetic Research/Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technologies, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Journal of Intelligent Systems, and Sensors. Dr. Viani is a Member of the IEEE, of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, and the European Microwave Association (EuMA).
